You may be set in a routine for making your health insurance claims, so why use an app? Here are a few reasons:
- It can provide you with an electronic all-in-one benefit and travel ID card, and you don’t even have to log in to use it!
- It’s quick and easy to present your card, and at participating locations for drug and dental submissions they will be covered immediately.
- It’s economical (free, in fact!) and you will save paper and mailing costs.

It’s great for managing your claims
With health insurance and your health claims app you don’t have to wait to submit claims — you can make them as soon as your coverage is in effect.
If you don’t know whether you’re covered for a prescription drug, you may be able to sign in and submit a mock claim to see if you are eligible under your plan, how much you will get paid, and view other coverage information. Depending on your plan, you can check your eligibility for chiropractic treatment, massage therapy, physiotherapy, prescription eyeglasses and contact lenses, routine eye exams, custom foot orthotics, and dental recall exams.
You can search your claims history for access to the real-time status of recently submitted claims, and view the details of previously submitted claims.
And you can use the app to view audit notifications and instructions on what to do if your claim is selected for an audit.
How to get started
Use the internet browser on your device to go to your health insurance carrier’s website, and you will find one of the app store links. Alternatively, you can open the app store on your device and search for the application (information about the app will be provided with your plan details).
Usually you must be registered for your insurer’s claim online services and accept the online claims submission agreement before you can access your claims app. (To register you will be required to confirm a few personal details, create a username and password, and provide answers to three challenge questions.) Then all you need is your health insurance policy number and the password you use to log in.
Once you have your claims app on your device you may receive updates for new features.
Not ready to use an app yet?
If you’ve never had to file a health claim it’s natural to worry about the process being complicated. There are forms and receipts; how do you know you have everything you need?
